Hydrogen home applicances

Presented at the Green Spirit Day 2009 two innovative concepts to wash and dry without using electricity.

A washer and a dryer using hydrogen have been designed and manufactured by Electrolux in collaboration with H2planet by Hydro2power.

Washing machine and dryer

LB2009, the “off grid” washing machine
LB2009 works with an hydrogen generator and a fuel cell.

AS2009, high efficiency dryer
Electric power is produced inside the dryer itself from a fuel cell and an electric generator with a very low environmental impact on methane. The heat generated by the chemical energy conversion process (Methane) into electrical energy is not dissipated but is reused for the drying cycle. The electricity produced by the fuel cell is used to supply all the electrical loads of the dryer.

Example

With a traditional dryer, the cost of electricity of 0.17 /kWh, the total cycle cost will be 0.27 and the CO2 emission 908g.
In the case of a dryer with a fuel cell, the system is supplied with natural gas, about 210 liters. The natural gas will cost o0.47 €/Nm3, the cost per cycle is 0.1 . In this case, the CO2 emissions are 417 g.

FUEL-CELL and hydrogen storage in metal hydrides canister MYH2

FUEL CELL: H300 with metal hydride storage system
H300 is the fuel-cell system for electric current production at zero emissions: super-compact 300W (330W peak), ideal for small and portable applications. Electronic control system included.

STORAGE SYSTEM: metal hydrides canister CE certified and UN 3479
The storage of hydrogen is one of the most important and delicate rings of hydrogen generation. Security and ease of use are ensured by the ultra-compact cylinders metal hydride signed H2planet. The hydrogen is stored at low pressure between 5-10bar.
