H2planet - Lexus - Formafantasma

H2planet is a technical partner and installer of the fuel system with hydrogen fuel-cell in the Lexus stand at the Milan Design Week 2016.
One of the most awaited and celebrated by the media for the big public impact was certainly the installation curated for the Lexus brand by Formafantasma study, with the technical collaboration of H2planet.

??For this project H2planet installed, coordinated and managed the fuel system with hydrogen fuel-cell and metal hydride to power completely off-grid LED lighting installation systems.

Fuorisalone 2016

Fuorisalone is the set of events distributed in different areas of Milan on days when the Salone Internazionale del Mobile which is staged in the halls of Rho Fiera. Every year, in April, Salone and Fuorisalone define the Fuorisalone Milan Design Week, the most important event in the world for design addicted.

H2planet has coordinated for Lexus the part of design, construction and installation of fuel-cell systems and metal hydrides refills that allowed the independent power supply from the grid for 10 consecutive days.

An Encounter with Anticipation

Italian duo Formafantasma have created a trio of installations that reference the form and materials of Japanese car brand Lexus' LF-FC concept model. The Anticipation exhibition is being held in a former metal factory, and represents the "fusion of machine, craftsmanship and tradition"
One room features a circle of metal stools, made from panels that have been finished in the same paint process applied to the LF-FC car. A second room houses an installation that has been designed to reference Japan's early textile industry.
The third installation uses hydrogen fuel-cell technology from H2planet to power four large stainless steel pieces, shaped like giant off-centre clock faces. Each of the items moves slowly to create a "subtle choreography", while a supporting reflective pink platform hides the power source.

H2planet system

H2planet has contributed designing, building and installing the power supply system for lighting kinetic sculptures designed by Formafantasma.

The project consisted of four fuel-cell systems of different power:

- 1 system consists in vertical panels of transparent Plexiglas on which were placed on each 15 micro fuel-cells in series that were fed on hydrogen through innovative MYH2 SLIM cartridges.

- 3 systems which consist of 12W PEM fuel-cell stack with cells capable of supplying the LED lighting bars thanks to suitable pressure regulating system, MyH2 cartridges, current control system and automation of purging and starting valves.

Space designers

Andrea Trimarchi and Simone Farresin are Studio Formafantasma, an Italian designers duo based in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

Formafantasma has developed a coherent body of work characterized by experimental materials investigations and explored such issues as the relationship between tradition and local culture, critical approaches to sustainability and the significance of objects as cultural conduits.
In perceiving their role as a bridge between craft, industry, object and user, they are interested in forging links between their research-based practice and a wider design industry.
Their work has been presented and published internationally and museums such as New York's MoMA, London’s Victoria and Albert, New York's Metropolitan Museum…
