Plastic polymer Nafion® NRE-212 PFSA DuPontTM, universally used as an electrolyte base for ionic exchange of PEM (Proton Exchange Membrane) fuel-cells and electrolysers, is a simple transparent membrane. The brand new NRE-212 take the place of the former N-112 keeping the same properties at the same time enhancing the chemical behavior with substantially lower fluoride ion release compared to the non-stabilized polymer, sign of improved chemical durability.  Thus the membrane performs as a separator and solid electrolyte in a variety of electrochemical cells that require the membrane to selectively transport cations across the cell junction. The polymer is chemically resistant and durable.

It's a thin transparent plastic film able to transport  H⁺ ions through the polymer structure and NRE-212 features a thickness of 50,8um.
