You need just water!

Fuel-cell car science kit uses a reversible fuel cell which can work as an electrolyzer dividing water molecule in hydrogen and oxygen through electrolysis. The same device transforms hydrogen chemical power in electric energy through an easy and effective chemical process, reverse electrolysis.

After assembling the fuel-cell on the chassis is possible, supplying through water and providing electric energy through a solar panel, to produce small hydrogen quantities observable in the transparent tank for fuel accumulation which is on the car. Then, linking the fuel-cell to the motor, is possible to start off the reverse reaction with electric energy production when hydrogen recombines with oxygen.

Through this energy can the car move and change automatically the direction when it finds an obstacle. LED lights, positioned on the front part of the motor, through provided energy start flashing.

The car will move alone until hydrogen, stored in the internal tank, will be completely used.

The reactions which happens in the reversible fuel-cell are redox:

Electrolysis mode (electrolyzer):

- anodic reaction (oxidation): H2O > ½ O2 + 2 H+ + 2 e-   

- cathodic reaction (reduction): 2 H+ + 2 e- > H2

Reverse electrolysis mode (fuel-cell):

- anodic reaction: H2> 2 H+ +e-

- cathodic reaction: ½ O2 + 2 H+ + 2 e- > H2O

This car should only be used by persons 12 years old and up and only under the supervision of an adult.
