The Project

The installation was carried out at the Green Propulsion Lab of the company Veritas S.p.a. regarding the virtuos project of producing hydrogen from waste.

Hence the need for a compression skid necessary to bring the idrogen produced by the fermentation of waste to a value adequate for market standard (30bar). This is the 2nd installation we have carried out for the Venetian company.

Pre-Compression Stage

Given the flow rate values of 4 NI/min and pressure of 0.2 barg, it's necessary to consider a compression stage to be able to bring the gas to de values required by the booster, at a value of 4 barg.

The compressor chosen is a diaphragm model managed by an internally produced control panel.

The control logic, through adequate sensors, allows the compressor to work with 2 pressure thresholds, in this way the compressor stops if the pressure conditions are not optimal or if upstream it is too low than a certain threshold or if downstream the pressure is too high (this could be due to a sudden interruption of the downstream system leading to an increase in the pressure level above the maximum threshold).

The cylinder pack

The cylinder pack installed outside the box allows it to act as a buffer for the compression skid both in the charging and discharging phase, in fact 3 cylinders are dedicated to the accumulation at 4 barg, while 1 cylinder is dedicated to the accumulation at 30 barg

Compression Skid

The compression skid includes the compressed air powered booster and dedicated sensors.

Through a costant air flow of 7 barg the booster allows the pumping of the hydrogen flow from 4 to 30 barg.

The air flow is guaranteed by a compressor located externally and dedicated to this function.

Hydride heating system

The metal hydride storage heating system makes the hydride.

During the hydride discharge phase, as soon as the surface temperature of the cylinder drops below a threshold value, the electric heating system comes into operation, uniformly heating the entire cylinder.

Power cuts off once the surface temperature returns to the optimal operating range.
